Health insurance for self-employed people in North Carolina
Health insurance for freelancers, contractors, and owner-operators buying their own coverage. With no employer plan, the whole decision sits with you. We help you put a considered number on the form and explain what to do when the year turns out differently than you expected.

How we help
Income that changes month to month makes the application's income question harder than it looks.
The income question
If you qualify for premium tax credits, they are worked out from an estimate of next year's income, and any difference is settled when you file your taxes. A careful estimate now helps keep that settlement small.
Your income is different every month
Freelance, contract or commission work makes the application's income question genuinely hard. We help you put a number on it you can stand behind.
Then take your time with the application
Nearly all of the friction in an application is one question: the income estimate for the coming year. It is an estimate, it can be updated during the year, and a considered number now is what keeps tax time uneventful. For self-employed households this is the question worth slowing down on.
From our guide How to choose a health insurance plan in North Carolina without guessing
What if my income changes during the year?
Report it to the Marketplace as soon as you know. If you receive premium tax credits, they are based on an estimate of your annual income, and updating it during the year is usually easier than settling a big difference at tax time.
Can I get help paying my premium?
You may qualify for premium tax credits depending on your household income and eligibility. Not everyone qualifies, and the amount varies by household. We help you check what applies to you.
Do you charge a fee for your help?
No. ZAVIA does not charge customers an additional fee for Marketplace enrollment assistance.
